Imagine such an award
Imagine such an award! The minute it arrives, it puts you in the limelight and pushes your life to another level. It boosts the desire for you and help you earn the respect of millions just in one day. It makes you the one who has the power to choose, not a choice that people have to decide on. In brief, it doesn’t let you have even one day that goes without a kiss on your forehead saying “all is well!”
But note that few things in this world feel as awful as the fear to lose!
On the other hand, this award I’m going to tell you now allows you to bathe in the limelight only for 365 days. The effort to keep it in your hand may cause you to be constantly on pins and needles, lose your sleep and have horrible nightmares.
While it is already hard to win “the temporary Oscar” award of gastronomy, Michelin stars, it is even a harder job to keep it in your hands. The fact that there are some chefs committing suicide for they lost their Michelin stars proves the seriousness and significance of the awards.
There are many remarks favoring or opposing the Michelin stars. Even the repulsive character of the awards even incited some to boycott the starred restaurants altogether. When they faced the danger of losing their popularity; these restaurants, recently going through a period of change, have gravitated towards the naturalist and local cuisine making use of only local produces.
Upon such an improvement, the most serious guide for the culinary world still remains Michelin.
It is a sad fact that Turkey couldn’t put up any candidates for the Michelin Guide. But again, when we inspect the guide, we realize that some of the locations are pretty close to Turkey: such as Munich…
With 2 restaurants with 2 stars and 10 restaurants with one star, 12 Michelin awarded restaurants in total, Munich seems to fare good so far. Now, I’d like to try to put them in order based on my experiences until now.
It takes only a two-hour flight to reach these restaurants. I will soon be posting an article about each of them detailed with pictures and my remarks.
For those who might say these restaurants are way over their budget, soon I’ll be posting a review on “the Delicious Tastes from the Brasseries in Munich”.
Hans Haans
Tantris has been serving the high-quality tastes to its customers for over 20 years. I’ve been a regular customer of the restaurant as well, for about 10 years. The reastaurant serves local dishes as well as some international dishes with a French touch accompanied with its chic atmosphere called as “red as lobsters and black as truffles”.
Tohru Nakamura
Having been awarded with its first Michelin star five months ago, Geisels Werneckhof promises you a creative dining experience with Japanese and Italian touches thanks to the Omni, Soli and Gaudi menus of the Chef Nakamura.
Diethard Urbansky
As it serves as a delicatessen on the first floor, there is a rather fine dining saloon on the second floor that has the capacity to serve 40 customers its local and international dishes with a French touch by Urbansky.
Bobby Brauer
With its cozy atmosphere suggestive of an ultra-luxurious house located in the BMW World building, although it started to serve short time ago, EssZimmer has already received its first Michelin star and by that it seems to have a bright future ahead with its chef Bobby Brauer who’s interested in the modern cuisine.
Martin Fauster
Located in Königshof Hotel, the restaurant has a rich menu in keeping with its rich decoration. The experimental dishes created by the Chef Fauster from the French cuisine are boosted by the interesting wine-pairing recommendation from the restaurant’s experienced sommelier team.
Patrick Raass
With a fine stylish atmosphere decorated in accordance with the “Alpine style”, the restaurant offers local recipes made with a variety of ingredients brought from the several places around the globe. Alfons Schuhbeck, my friend, is familiar with the Ottoman cuisine a lot for a long time. I expect some surprise dishes from him soon.
Mario Gamba
The imaginative interpretations of the local recipes by Mario Gamba creates that kind of atmosphere in the middle of Munich that you can only experience at the restaurants in Portofino.
Simon Larese
As you can have a good time enjoying the delectable dishes created by the Chef Larese drawing on the South-East Asian cuisine accompanied by a live piano recital from its lobby, the hotel is located in Mandarin Oriental Munich Hotel.
Steffen Mezger
Having been opened in 2005, Atelier Gourmet Restaurant has a cozy and comfortable atmosphere with a capacity of serving 35 people. It offers fine choices from the Mediterranean cuisine boosted with a French touch.
Run by Fabrice Kieffer and Johann Rappenglück, the restaurant offers delectable basic dishes on its first floor. On the other hand, on the second floor, it welcomes you with fine examples from the French cuisine and a wine cellar with 400 varieties to offer. But unfortunately it has ranked the last one on my list because of the frustration it caused me.
Bon appétit and enjoy the taste of life…
